The Haematology Clinic was established in 1995. It provides high-level services in accordance with international guidelines. It is staffed by seven distinguished Haematologists and consists of three departments, offering the following services:
A. Outpatient Clinics: There are three outpatient clinics operating daily, where investigation and monitoring of patients with benign and malignant haematological disorders are conducted. Such disorders include anaemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, acute and chronic leukaemia, lymphomas, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms, plasma cell dyscrasias, immunodeficiency, hereditary angioedema, etc. Additionally, evaluation and assessment of bone marrow donors are performed. The outpatient clinics serve as a reference centre for the investigation, monitoring, and treatment of bleeding and thrombotic disorders.
B. Day Care Unit: The day care unit provides treatment and diagnostic services to patients with haematological conditions e.g., chemotherapy related disorders, blood and blood derivatives transfusions, phlebotomy, intravenous fluid administration, bone marrow aspiration, and bone marrow biopsy.
C. Haematology Clinic: The clinic has a capacity of 13 beds and is operated by 22 highly trained and experienced nurses who provide treatment and care for various complications in patients requiring long-term hospitalisation. Two beds are allocated for patients undergoing autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. To date, more than 293 transplantations have been performed with exceptional outcomes. Autologous transplantation and collection of hematopoietic stem cells are specialised procedures that are exclusively offered by the Haematology Clinic at Nicosia General Hospital. Patients are referred from both public and private healthcare providers.
