Profile

Vascular Surgery has been an officially recognised specialty at Nicosia General Hospital since the 1990’s.

In June 2017, the Vascular Surgery Clinic was established in an effort to improve and upgrade the Cyprus Public Health Services under the ministry of Mr. Georgios Pamporidis.

The clinic’s staff consists of specialists and resident Vascular Surgeons. The department is headed by Dr. Christos Mpekos.

The clinic consists of a) the ward, b) the day care department c) the vascular laboratory (performing 5000 vascular ultrasounds per year), and (d) the catheterisation department where a variety of intravascular and hybrid interventions are carried out.

Outpatient examinations are performed every Monday and Wednesday at the outpatient clinics.

The clinic covers the entire range of vascular interventions, performing more than a thousand vascular surgical procedures annually. These include mainly endovascular stent grafting procedures but also open surgeries to a lesser extent.

Indicatively procedures concern the endovascular correction of aneurysms (EVAR, TEVAR, PEVAR, COMPLEX ENDOVASCULAR AORTIC PROCEDURES), carotid disease (CAS, CEA), as well as varicose vein removal utilising cutting-edge intravascular methods (RFA, Venaseal).

The clinic’s core principles are safety, self-sufficiency in providing effective treatments for all diseases and their complications. Adhering to the above the clinic has become an internationally recognised centre of reference.
