The Cardiology Clinic began its operation in February 2004. It has a 13-bed ward, equipped with peripheral monitors, which are connected to a central station for monitoring the vital signs of hospitalised patients. Severe cases requiring respiratory support are treated in the Progressive Care Unit, which has 8 beds and corresponding ventilators.

There are 6 Cardiologists working in the clinic. All cardiologists are trained in both clinical and laboratory cardiology. Three outpatient clinics and all the laboratories are open daily. One of the clinics and a laboratory are open in the afternoon twice a week as well. The Clinic is on duty daily (24/7) for new admissions and for cardiological evaluation of patients from other clinics, covering the entire province of Paphos.

The Cardiology Clinic provides a comprehensive program for the diagnostic and therapeutic management of cardiac diseases which includes:

Outpatient visits for clinical examination

Cardiac laboratory for stress tests, echocardiography (transthoracic, transoesophageal, and pharmacological stress echo), carotid ultrasound, pacemaker and defibrillator checks, 24-hour Holter and blood pressure monitoring, tilt table test

  • Hospitalisation in the Cardiology Ward and the Progressive Care Unit
  • Consultation services to other clinics and specialties in the Hospital
  • The Cardiology Clinic has access to the latest diagnostic examinations, including:
  • Haematology and biochemistry tests
  • Comprehensive lipid and vascular atherosclerotic evaluation

Modern imaging examinations such as plain or digital radiography, computed tomography (CT) scans, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cardiac scintigraphy, coronary angiography, electrophysiological studies, and more.

In addition, it has a laboratory for pacemakers and defibrillators, both for the implantation of devices, which is done in the operating room, and for their control and programming, which takes place in the laboratory.

The Clinic also runs an educational programme, offering part-time specialisation in Cardiology approved by the Ministry of Health of Greece and the Committee of Medical Clinical Specialties of Cyprus and also participates in the practical training of students of the Medical School of the University of Nicosia. On a regular basis, the doctors participate in training seminars and medical conferences, improving their theoretical training and clinical experience and being informed on the latest developments in Cardiology.
