Profile

The Paediatric Clinic is located in a specially designed area on the 4th floor of the Limassol General Hospital. It has 32 beds (11 rooms with 2 beds and 2 rooms with 5 beds) and each room has its own bathroom facilities and TV.

It is operated by Paediatricians and Nurses with experience and high level of training, who offer their services on a 24-hour basis to inpatients and paediatric patients of the A&E department. Since January 2020, Residents and Trainees/Students of the Medical School of the University of Nicosia are being trained at the clinic.

The Clinic also offers: Primary Care Services, including vaccines, assessment of children with endocrinological, neurological, paediatric surgery or orthopaedic problems, as well as a Breastfeeding Support Clinic. Our hospital will soon be the first with Accreditation as a Baby Friendly Hospital. The Paediatric Clinic of Limassol General Hospital is unique, because it has a Microbiology and Radiology Department, a Physiotherapy Clinic, a Nutritionist-Dietitian and other Specialists, such as Social Workers and Child Psychiatrists. A group examination and discussion of the cases takes place daily, there are Treatment Protocols, educational work and continuous training of the staff.

The Paediatric Clinic has all the necessary equipment for the proper monitoring and treatment of our young patients. All of the above, combined with the love of all of our health Professionals, make the children’s hospitalisation more pleasant.

Nursing Care:

The Paediatric Clinic provides care for children up to the age of 16 from the Limassol and Paphos districts. The admission process has been simplified to facilitate patients and their families through the following ways:

A) Direct admission to the clinic: after their personal doctor has taken the necessary steps:

Direct admissions can be arranged upon Issuance of a referral for inpatient care by their personal doctors and coordination with the respective on-call paediatrician at 25801530 or 25801545. The child and accompanying individual must present a negative Rapid test prior to admission.

B) Through the A&E department:

If the child or their accompanying individual tests positive or has had contact with a positive case, prior coordination with the A&E department is required to direct them to the examination area equipped with the necessary facilities and precautions. All children are examined by the on-call paediatrician.

C) Seriously ill children are transported either by ambulance or by their parents or guardians directly to the A&E department, where the on-call paediatrician is notified to attend the case.

Outpatient Clinics:

A) Primary Care Clinics:

At Limassol Hospital, most of our paediatricians are also personal doctors. Two clinics operate daily in the morning and one in the afternoon (15:00-18:00) in a specially configured area for children.

Linopetra Clinic:

This clinic primarily performs vaccinations and preventive check-ups for infants, aiming to reduce visits and lift burden off the Limassol General Hospital premises.

Specialised Clinics:

  1. Special Paediatric Clinic:

a. Visits to the special paediatric clinic are arranged upon referral from their personal doctors for the investigation of more complex or chronic cases that do not require hospitalisation.

b. Visits without referral are also served by paying the corresponding fee. Often, parents seek second opinions from our paediatricians regarding their children’s condition. The extensive experience of most of our doctors and their opinions are well trusted and reassuring to parents.

  • Clinic for Children with Diabetes: Approximately 80 children, primarily from Limassol but also from other cities, are systematically monitored by Dr. Soteriou and associate nurse Mrs. Andri Gregoriou. Both professionals have specialised training and extensive experience in the field, a fact which is evident by the positive feedback the clinic has been receiving.
  • Paediatric Neurology Clinic operated by Dr. Konstantoulaki, who provides specialised treatment for a range of paediatric neurology conditions.
  • Paediatric Surgery Clinic. The clinic is operated by Dr. Michalakis and Dr. Leivaditis every Tuesday.
  • Paediatric Orthopaedic Clinic. Operated by Dr. Orfanos who treats children who are either hospitalised or attending the outpatient clinics every two weeks.

*All clinics operate by appointment only. Please call 25801320 to schedule an appointment.

Collaborations and synergies:

Our collaborators include a Paediatric Cardiologist and a Paediatric Allergist (through service procurement). We have direct access to radiology and microbiology laboratories, as well as physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists, and child psychiatrists. When necessary, the on-call paediatrician can request and arrange the transfer of a child to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Makarios Hospital in coordination with the ambulance service.

Educational Activities:

Our clinic hosts educational activities for our trainees and also students from the medical school of the University of Nicosia, from where we receive excellent feedback.

Scientific Publications – Research:

-HDR, Barakat Syndrome: In early 2021, at PAS we had a poster presentation for a case of an infant with a hearing-impaired of initially unknown genetic aetiology. Diagnosis was successfully reached for both the infant and the mother after thorough genetic testing performed at CING.

-Online Conference for Trainees: In October 2021, in collaboration with the Paediatric Society of Cyprus, we organised successfully our first conference where specialists presented four cases of interest treated at our clinic.

-Our trainees also participate in research projects at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus.

-Both specialists and trainees attend local and international Paediatrics conferences for continuous updates about the field, such as the Pan-Hellenic Conference, Pan-Cyprian Conference, Infectious Diseases Conference, etc.

The above, along with daily discussions and evaluations of cases, the implementation of modern therapeutic protocols, but also the proper approach, information and guidance provided to parents, instil confidence and a sense of security in them regarding the proper management of their children’s health.
