Glaucoma Surgery/ Eye diseases due to diabetes mellitus/ Plastic and reconstructive surgery in acute periocular and eye injuries
Dr. Poupis Irene Vassou (born in 1964) from Limassol – Cyprus, graduated (with Ηonours) the science branch of the Fifth Gymnasium of Limassol Cyprus (senior High School) in 1982.The same year in September she started her education in the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after Sechenov.
After finishing successfully her studies in 1st Medical Institute of Moscow in 1988 (Degree with Ηonours), attended for specialization in ophthalmology the Ophthalmology Chair of the 1stMoscow Medical Academy, based in Scientific Research Institute of Eye Diseases of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
After accomplishing her specialization, Dr. Poupis worked for twelve years in Glaucoma department in The Scientific Research Institute of Eye Diseases of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
During this period she attended several advanced training courses in fields of: Cataract surgery and cataract emulsification, Surgical and conservative methods in glaucoma treatment (Fistulisation operations such as Trabeculectomy with or without iridocycloretruction, insertion of Ahmed Valve and silicon tubes , SLT laser Trabeculoplasty, YAG laser Iridectomy ect.) Methods of Ultrasound Diagnostics in ophthalmology, Laser treatment methods in ophthalmology, Modern methods of diagnosis in ophthalmology (such as Fluoroangiography (FAG), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT)
and treatment of retinal and optic nerve diseases, etc.
In the past, as a member of E.S.O.P.R.S (European Society of Ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery), she repeatedly participated with scientific presentations in European ( Spain, France) and international (Latvia, Israel ) ophthalmology conferences.
As a member of Russian Ophthalmological Society and Russian Glaucoma Society had various scientific articles in Russian and foreign ophthalmology journals.
In July of 2006 Dr. Poupis repatriated to Cyprus and since the 16th of July 2007 is working as a ophthalmic surgent in Larnaka’s Government Hospital.
Dr. Poupis speaks fluently four languages (Greek, English, Russian and French).
