Dr. Elena Papamichael graduated from Pancyprian Gymnasium with Honours Degree (19 9/11). After giving Pancyprian entrance exams, she was admitted in Medical School of National Kapodistriakon University of Athens (1985) and graduaded with Honours degree (1991). She began her training in Paediatrics, starting from the Paediatric Clinic of Kalamata General Hospital and finished her specialization in the 1st Paediatric Clinic of “AGIA SOPHIA” Children’s Hospital. She was rewarded (after exams) with the Paediatrician title on 1996. She started and finished an accredited 2 year programme for sub-specialization in Neonatology (1997-1999) at an accredited center (General Hospital-Maternity Elena Venizelou, Athens). Immediately after this, she was employed as a Paediatrician -Neonatologist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Arch. Makarios III (1999) and in which she is still working.
She succeeded a 3-month Fulbright scholarship at the Miller School of Medicine, Miami, USA (2011). She has a Master degree (MSc) in Health Units Management (0UC-2011). She also has a PhD title in Health Units Management (0UC-2016) and her thesis was “Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Organization: Epidemiology and Parents Satisfaction”.
Dr. Papamichael has today the longest documented experience in handling high risk neonates in OKYPY clinics. She is also very capable of controlling crisis situations and management problems.
She has enough number of publications and announcements in scientific journals. She participated as an invited speaker in local and international conferences. She is a member of the scientific team responsible for the Greek translation of the books of European Resuscitation Council (ERC) concerning neonates and infants (NLS, EPALS). She is an instructor and co-organizer in advanced paediatric and neonatal life support (EPLS, NLS) seminars. She participates in the clinical education of young doctors practicing Paediatrics and Neonatology. She also takes part in lectures/clinical training in educational programmes concerning the department of Nursing Services ( Ministry of Health). She is a special academic scientist (staff) of University of Cyprus Medical School and of the Medical department of European University. She was an horonary assistant professor of St George’s Nicosia Medical School.
She is a member of Cyprus Paediatric Association, Greek Paediatric Association, Greek Neonatal Society and Cyprus Perinatal Society. She was a member of National Society for Breast Feeding and now she is a member of the National Committee for Vaccinations as well as the National Committee “ Environment and Child Health”.
Since September 2019, she is a member of Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (Ministry of Health) once weekly.
