Eleni A. Frangou holds a Medical Diploma (MD) from the University of Ioannina (2001). After residency in Internal Medicine (Patisia General Hospital, 2 years) and Nephrology (Athens General Hospital “G. Gennimatas”, 4 years), she was board certified in Nephrology from the Ministry of Health of the Hellenic Republic (2011).

She holds a master’s degree (MSc) in Molecular Medicine from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Medical School and Schools of Biology and Nursing) and a Philosophy Degree in Medicine (PhD) from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Medical School). She worked as a consultant nephrologist at Medifil Dialysis Unit in Athens and as a researcher at the Centre of Clinical, Experimental and Translational Research of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA). In 2015, she was repatriated in Cyprus and worked as a consultant nephrologist at Nicosia General Hospital. Since 2018, she is a consultant nephrologist in Limassol General Hospital, an instructor in Nephrology at the University of Nicosia Medical School, a research fellow at the Laboratory of Autoimmunity and Inflammation of the BRFAA and an elected member of the Immunonephrology Working Group (IWG) board of the European Renal Association (ERA).

Her research interest focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of systemic autoimmunity and immune-mediated kidney diseases. Using state-of-the art technologies (such as -omics, imaging, bioinformatics, and machine-learning) she seeks to elucidate novel molecular pathways mediating kidney injury that can be targeted in a personalized manner.
