Dr. Georgios Ioannidis is a Medical Oncology Specialist and the Clinic Manager of the Oncology Department at Nicosia General Hospital. He is a graduate of the Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and a holder of a PhD degree from the Medical Department of the University of Crete (Greece). He completed his specialist training in Medical Oncology at Saint Savas Anticancer Hospital in Athens, Greece in 2006. From 2006 to 2007, he worked as a Clinical Research Fellow in Medical Oncology at Southampton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in Southampton, United Kingdom. In 2007, he was appointed a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Nicosia General Hospital. Throughout his career, he has been awarded fellowships by the European School of Oncology (2006) and the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (2009 and 2010) for research and clinical training abroad. He conducted research at the Translational Oncology Laboratory of the Medical School of the University of Crete (Greece) with the aim of detecting molecular biomarkers that predict sensitivity to gemcitabine-based chemotherapy in patients with advanced-stage non-small cell lung cancer. He has worked as a Specialist Scientist at the Nursing Department of the Cyprus University of Technology and as a Clinical Instructor at the Medical School of the European University Cyprus. He is an active member of the Quality of Life Group of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the Hellenic Society for Medical Oncology (HeSMO) and the Cyprus Cancer Society (OEK). He has participated in various Scientific Committees of the Ministry of Health of Cyprus and is currently a member of the Advisory Committee on Medicines of the Cyprus Health Insurance Organisation. He has first-authored or co-authored more than 55 peer-reviewed journal publications and international conference proceedings.
