Dr Marios Antoniades

CV

Dr. Marios Antoniadis graduated from Kykkos B High School in Paphos, with leaving certificate grade Excellent. Through Pancyprian examinations, he was admitted to the Medical Department of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Patras, from where he graduated. He continued his training in the specialty of Hematology starting from the pediatric clinic of Arch. Makarios III Hospital and completed it in the Department of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology of Athens University Children’s General Hospital Agia Sofia with intermediate secondments to the 1st Pathology Clinic of the Medical School of Athens and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, General Hospital Laiko as well as at the University General Hospital Georgios Gennimatas in Athens.
He holds certificates of vocational training in Thalassaemia and other Hemoglobinopathies as well as quality assurance in Blood Donation from the professional training centre of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Greece. After completing his training in the Specialty of Hematology, he was appointed to the Hematology Clinic of Limassol General Hospital and later to Nicosia General Hospital, where he undertook the organisation and operation of the Hemophilia-Thrombophilia Unit, which is the internationally recognised centre of reference for patients with hemorrhagic and thrombotic tendencies in Cyprus. He received postgraduate training at St Thomas Hospital Hemorrhage Unit in London.
Selected by the Fulbright Foundation for a scholarship and retraining in the study of Hemorrhagic Disorders at Cornell University Hospital in New York, USA. He holds a master’s degree in Health Unit Management. He participates in a large number of publications, published papers in recognised scientific journals and participated as a speaker in local and international conferences. He was the scientific editor of the Greek translation of the book “Thalassaemia” of the International Thalassaemia Federation.
He is in charge of Training of residents in Hematology, Scientific Specialist at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus as well as the Medical School of the European University. Founding member of the Cyprus Hematology Association of which he was President for 3 terms, actively participating in the organisation and conduct of educational conferences at local and international level.
He is also a member of international professional societies EHA, ISTH, WFH as well as the Hellenic Hematology Association.

2000-2001: Hematologist, Hematology General Hospital, Limassol 

2001- present Assistant Director of Hematology, Hematology Arch. Makarios III Hospital / Nicosia General Hospital / Unit Manager Hemoglobinopathy- Thrombophilia. 

2010-2012: President of Cyprus Hematology Association 

2012: Master Degree in Health Units Management 

2012-2014 : Teaching staff in the field of Hematology, Medical School, University of Nicosia / St George’s University of London. 

2018 – present Scientific Specialist at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus and European University, Chairman of Cyprus Hematology Association, Head of training for Hematology Residents.
