Clinical Psychology
Dr. Patricia Nicolaou is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Cyprus and currently works as a Clinical Psychologist in the “Prevention and Treatment Centre for Eating Disorders” of the Mental Health Services for Children and Adolescents od SHSO. She works with adolescents and their families dealing with eating disorders. She previously worked as a Clinical Psychologist at the “Center for Prevention and Counselling for Adolescents and Families – Prometheus” of the Mental Health Services. She worked with teenagers and young adults who make regular and occasional use of illicit and licit substances. She also worked in the closed therapeutic community rehabilitation for people addicted to addictive substances “Agia Skepi”. She received a degree (B.Sc) in psychology from Middlesex University of London, three-year postgraduate degree (MSc) in Clinical Psychology from Barry University in Miami, Florida, USA and she has received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cyprus. As part of the doctoral thesis supervised by Dr. Karekla, she developed and evaluated an interactive web development Prevention programme for Eating Disorders. The prevention programme was based on Acceptance and Commitment therapy, specifically targeting the need of control and regimen that people with Eating Disorders appeared to deal with. She received additional training in the field of eating disorders through the International Foundation of Professionals for Eating Disorders and through the two-year training at King’s Hospital Maudsley Eating Disorder Team, UK.

June 2011-November 2012: Clinical Psychologist at the “Centre for Prevention and Counselling for Adolescents and Family – Prometheus” of Mental Health Services . September 2008-June 2011: Clinical Psychologist at closed therapeutic community “Agia Skepi” rehabilitation for people addicted to addictive substances. August 2007-June 2008: Resident Clinical Psychologist at Milestones in Recovery Eating Disorder Treatment Centre, Miami, USA. January 2007-May 2007: Resident Clinical Psychologist in the Family and Counselling Services Greater Miami-Phillis Miller Elementary School, North Miami.
