Nicosia General Hospital is the only quaternary care hospital and flagship of our country’s healthcare system.  It stands as the largest hospital in Cyprus, both in terms of infrastructure and number of cases served. It belongs to the network of hospitals of the State Health Services Organization, which includes 7 other hospitals that provide comprehensive healthcare coverage to the population across free Cyprus.

The Hospital has an operating capacity of 456 inpatient beds, 36 day care beds and 56 dialysis beds, 12 operating rooms and an Accident and Emergency Department (A&E). The hospital’s personnel comprise 217 physicians specialising in over 30 medical fields, 16 University physicians and 1009 nursing officers. Annually, the hospital serves over 160,000 inpatient and outpatient cases and attends to approximately 55,000 cases in the A&E Department, effectively managing any incident, being either a routine case or a challenging and complex condition.

Nicosia General Hospital takes pride in being the only healthcare provider in Cyprus offering specific specialised medical services. These services are provided through various departments, such as the Department of Interventional Radiology, the Transplant Clinic, the Intensive Care Unit, the Skull Base Surgery Centre, the reference Centre for Cochlear and Other Acoustic Implants, the Centre for Spinal Disorders, the Specialised Breast Centre of the Surgery Clinic, the University Neurology Clinic and the unique in Cyprus Centre for Trauma.

A large number of Hospital Clinics and Departments have already secured ISO-standards certifications for their respective procedures and services, while the Accreditation of the hospital as a whole by an international accreditation body, namely Accreditation Canada, is in progress.

The Clinical Laboratories of Nicosia General Hospital perform over 3.6 million tests annually, functioning as National Reference Laboratories for a broad range of specialised examinations, while the Radiology Department performs annually more than 85,000 radiodiagnostic imaging examinations, across the entire spectrum of Radiology.

In addition, Nicosia General Hospital houses the largest Physiotherapy Centre in Cyprus, both in terms of infrastructure and personnel, and by utilizing its state-of-the-art equipment is capable of serving a large number of patients simultaneously.
