  • Rheumatology

Scheduled admissions

For scheduled admissions, either for a surgery or for treatment that lasts more than a day, the patient must present an inpatient (one-time) referral. The consultation takes place between the doctor and the patient or the secretary of the specific specialty. The registration should take place at the Admissions desk. There, the patient will receive their medical file and be directed to the appropriate ward/department.

For example, in the Surgery Clinic:

  • Patients are registered on the Operation list, after consultation with their General Surgeon/Doctor.
  • The patient is notified by phone by the secretary of the specific specialty for the day of admission, as well as for the completion of general diagnostic tests one week before the operation.
  • The secretary then informs the patient to receive the necessary referrals to be presented by him/her on the day of admission (blood tests, electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, inpatient referral, referral to an anesthesiologist).
  • On the day of admission, the patient will go to the Breast and Thyroid Clinic (1st floor) to receive the admission paper. He/she will then proceed with his/her admission and examinations.
  • The operation will be performed on the next working day after the patient’s admission, unless otherwise indicated.

Emergency Admissions

For emergencies, admissions take place:

  • In consultation with the A&E department/doctor on duty
    • If the patient is a GHS Beneficiary, a referral for inpatient care will be issued by the A&E Doctor or the on-duty Specialist Doctor.
  • Through the Outpatient Clinics, if the Specialist Doctor deems that the hospitalisation of the patient is necessary for further checks and follow-up. The Specialist Doctor will issue a referral for GHS Inpatient Care.
  • If the patient is not a GHS beneficiary, the patient is informed that his/her admission will be subject to a fee. After that, a check is made on whether the patient can register on GHS, in consultation with him/her or his/her relatives, in order to benefit from inpatient care through GHS.

The visit to a Specialist Doctor is made after an appointment with the corresponding secretary. The secretary will inform the patient about what he/she needs to provide on the day of his/her appointment (referral, test results, tests, etc.). On the day of the appointment, the patient must first go to the Outpatients Registration Department to register and then go to the Specialist Doctor for his appointment.

  • For GHS Beneficiaries, the patient will present a GHS referral for the specific specialty. The referral will be issued by the patient’s Personal Doctor or another Specialist Doctor.
    • Upon submission of a referral, the registration fee for visiting a Specialist Doctor  is €6.
    • If there is no referral or it has expired, the registration fee is €25. The patient can contact the Information Department on the Ground Floor (Central Entrance) to assist them/contact a Personal Doctor and a referral will be issued.
    • There is no need for a referral for the specialty of Gynecology-Obstetrics. The registrations of the specific specialty are made exclusively on the 1st floor in the Gynecology-Obstetrics Clinic/Pregnancy Clinic.
  • For GHS non-beneficiaries, the visit to a Specialist costs €30.

In case the patient is a GHS Beneficiary but has not yet registered with a Personal Doctor, he/she can visit the Information Department on the Ground Floor (Central Entrance) to register with a Personal Doctor of the Health Centers of the Old Hospital and Linopetra, so that he/she can benefit from GHS.

  • For asylum seekers or persons whose registration with GESY is pending, it is recommended to present a health card of the Ministry of Health. In this case the registration fee is €3.
    • Holders of a card that ends in -YY along with the brown hospital card, after consultation with the Accounting Office, are not charged.
    • These people can contact the Information Department on the Ground Floor (Main Entrance) to help them with their applications.

For scheduled admissions, either for a surgery or for treatment that lasts for more than a day, the patient must present an inpatient (one-time) referral. The consultation takes place between the doctor and the patient. The registration should be done at the Admission desk. There the patient will receive his/her medical file and will then be directed to the appropriate department/ward.
