Opening hours are 07:30 to 15:00, and a shift-based coverage thereafter.
During weekends and public holidays, the laboratory operates on a 24-hour basis, covering emergencies from the A&E, inpatient wards, outpatient GHS beneficiaries requiring lab tests and requests from a private clinic.
Blood sampling hours on weekdays are from 07:30 to 14:00. GHS beneficiaries should visit the Lab Office, pay the appropriate fee on-site, receive the sample vials, and proceed to the adjacent area for blood collection.
Routine analyses are performed in the Biochemistry, Haematology, and Microbiology laboratories, while COVID-19 testing is carried out in the PCR laboratory for inpatients, personnel tracing, but also for individual requests for which a 25 euros fee applies. Thyroid and prostate tests (T4, TSH, PSA) are conducted once a week in the immunology laboratory. The Blood Bank of the hospital, albeit not part of the SHSO, is staffed during shifts and weekends by laboratory personnel. Specialised analyses, including hormonal and immunological tests, are sent to the respective laboratory of the Nicosia General Hospital every Tuesday and Friday.
Blood sample collection takes place once a week at Rural Healthcare Centres such as:
Tuesday: RHC Agios Georgios Acheritou/Vrysoulles and Ormidia
Wednesday: RHC Avgorou/Xylofagou
The laboratory serves all thalassemia patients in the Famagusta district who have their transfusions at Larnaca General Hospital. Their blood samples are sent for cross-matching in Larnaca GH every Monday and Thursday.
