The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic and Burns Unit of Nicosia General Hospital is a tertiary patient care centre. It features a broad range of cutting-edge equipment needed for the management of cases requiring Plastic, Reconstructive Surgery or Burns treatment.

It is the only clinic of its kind in the public sector of the island and serves as a referral centre for patients from all state hospitals, as well as for complex cases from the private sector.

The clinic has a total of 3 specialised physicians and 24 experienced nurses in the field of Plastic Surgery and Burns.

It has a total of 10 beds (single and double rooms) and 5 specialised and fully equipped rooms in the Burns Unit.

The clinic also houses a “Laser” department equipped with 2 state-of-the-art laser machines and a day surgery operating room for urgent use and care of hospitalised patients.

The Burns Unit (unique in Cyprus) has specialised equipment for the acute management and long-term care of patients with severe burns.

The clinic has access to 3 operating rooms per week in the main surgery department, as well as 3 operating rooms in the day surgery unit.

The following outpatient clinics are operational at the clinic:

• Plastic Surgery
• Melanoma and Pigmented Lesions
• Wound, Pressure Ulcer, and Decubitus Clinic
• Diabetic Foot Clinic
• Breast Reconstruction Clinic, after mastectomy – multidisciplinary team. It operates three times a week and accepts cases from oncology departments and surgical clinics in the public and private sectors.
• Dermatological Lesions and Skin Cancer Clinic
• Reconstructive Surgery and Congenital Anomalies Clinic
• Minor Interventions in the Outpatient Clinics
• Plastic Surgery Laser Department

The clinic performs mainly breast reconstruction after mastectomy, prophylactic mastectomy, oncoplastic surgery, reconstruction of soft tissue defects using local, regional, and distant flaps, burn reconstruction, treatment of skin carcinoma, surgical treatment of melanoma, surgical cleaning and reconstruction of diabetic feet, gynecomastia, pressure ulcer reconstruction, abdominoplasty, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, and more.

Minor interventions are performed in the day surgery unit, the operating room or plastic surgery room, the outpatient clinics, and the laser department, covering the entire spectrum of the specialty.

The above-mentioned patients receive postoperative follow-up care at the Plastic Surgery outpatient clinics of Nicosia General Hospital.

The clinic is involved in two research programs in collaboration with the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the Mediterranean Council for Burns and Fire Disasters (MBC) in Sicily, the clinic is also a member of the latter.

Scientific Activities

The clinic actively and consistently participates in important local, national, and European conferences, where presentations and studies conducted by the clinic are presented. The Plastic Surgery Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital is responsible for organising annual educational conferences for medical, paramedical, and nursing staff, as well as annual public awareness raising events on Plastic Surgery matters (Annual Burn Prevention Week).

The clinic provides training for postgraduate students from Frederick University, as well as students from the Medical School of the University of Nicosia.
