Profile

The Pulmonology Department of the Ammochostos General Hospital operates daily. Outpatient clinics are held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, as well as Wednesday afternoons (twice a month). Patients referred from other specialties and those suffering from chronic respiratory diseases are examined daily, through referrals.

Additionally, the department provides critical and high-level services to severely ill patients who require high concentrations of oxygen, such as High Flow Oxygen therapy, as well as non-invasive mechanical ventilation with special devices. In addition, the department treats patients with other serious respiratory conditions such as pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, respiratory infections, pleural effusion, interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary arterial hypertension, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, lung cancer, asthma exacerbations, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, bronchiectasis, haemoptysis, when referred through consultation.

Laboratory and examinations: Spirometry with portable spirometer for patients with respiratory diseases or those undergoing surgery requiring preoperative respiratory assessment.

Functional respiratory system testing: The Pulmonology Department is equipped with a machine for respiratory function testing.

Sleep study laboratory for diagnosing sleep apnoea syndrome and other sleep disorders: Scheduled sleep studies are performed. Patients suffering from sleep apnoea syndrome are monitored. Patients receive special training in the use of non-invasive ventilation devices (C-PAP, Bi-PAP), and the devices are regularly checked with modern software for proper functioning and patient use.

Bronchoscopy: The Ammochostos General Hospital operates an Interventional Pulmonology laboratory where the following examinations are performed:

Endoscopic swallowing assessment in patients with swallowing disorders, neurological diseases, frequent aspirations.
