Profile

The Department of Nephrology consists of the Nephrology ward, the Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis units and the Nephrology Outpatient Clinics.

The Nephrology ward is located on the 3rd floor of the Limassol General Hospital and operates with a capacity of 12 inpatient beds and 4 dialysis beds, accommodating inpatients that require specialised treatment or dialysis, respectively.

The Haemodialysis unit which is located on the ground floor, facilitates 34 haemodialysis stations where patients can have their regular dialysis sessions. The department holds three dialysis sessions a day, seven days a week. It also serves patients from abroad, visiting our island for either business or leisure. Citizens of the European Union are entitled to free medical care given they hold a valid European medical card. Visitors from abroad who intend to visit the department are encouraged to contact us three months in advance for their convenience.

The Peritoneal Dialysis unit normally serves patients undergoing Peritoneal dialysis at home. The unit’s main activities include training of patients by specialised staff and providing information on existing methods of peritoneal dialysis.

Patients with various nephrological conditions can be referred to the Nephrology Outpatient Clinics by their attending physician. The clinic operates and accepts visits daily. The clinic provides full specialisation and training in Clinical Nephrology for medical students of the University of Nicosia and St. George’s University.
