The Internal Medicine Clinic has a capacity of 20 beds and employs internal medicine specialists.

The clinic conducts crucial clinical and educational work. It operates on a 24/7 basis for patients admitted through the A&E department, outpatient or other clinics, referrals from Polis Chrysochous Hospital or the private sector (referrals of serious cases that cannot be treated in private clinics or referrals from personal doctors). The Clinic provides treatment for severe pathological cases in the ICU of Paphos Hospital.

The Internal Medicine Clinic operates the following specialised clinics, where patients are referred by their personal doctors:

• Pathology clinic: operated daily by all internists

• Hepatology clinic: every Monday-Tuesday-Thursday

• Diabetology clinic: treating patients with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, daily from Monday to Friday

• Diabetes and Pregnancy Clinic: Monday-Wednesday

Educational work:

The Internal Medicine Clinic hosts a training programme for 2-4 interns and 5-6 resident doctors. Since 2012, it offers a training-residency programme covering years 1 and 2 of the internal medicine specialty. In addition, it participates actively in scientific events organised by the hospital with lectures and presentations of case studies by specialists and resident doctors.

The training programme, in the context of the clinic’s educational work, includes:

1) Daily training of resident doctors: participation in the on-call schedule, daily presentations of cases (educational visits), clinical follow-ups, invasive procedures, patient care under the guidance of a specialist doctor.

2) Daily group discussions on complex cases of interest.

3) Every Tuesday: Medical literature updates and journal clubs.

4) Every Thursday: Lectures – Presentations.

5) Active participation in Greek and international conferences, by authoring and presenting interesting case studies.
