| The Surgery Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital is the largest surgical unit in Cyprus with a ward capacity of 56 beds for accommodating both emergencies and scheduled appointments. The experienced and well-trained medical and nursing staff of the Clinic ensure the high-quality health services which are provided to the patient with respect and high sense of responsibility. The Surgery Clinic consists of experienced surgeons with specialisation in the fields and subfields of General Surgery, thus covering any needs that may arise for the Cypriot citizens. In particular, the attending teams of surgeons cover diseases of the endocrine glands (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands), breast, abdominal wall (inguinal hernias, postoperative hernias, umbilical hernia, etc.), oesophagus and stomach, bile ducts of the pancreas, small and large intestine, rectum as well as the anus. Emphasis is placed on the application of state-of-the-art methods for minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery. Neoplastic diseases are treated in collaboration with other specialties of the hospital while oncological councils are organised in order to provide the optimal treatment for our patients. Emphasis is also given to the treatment of emergencies and injuries. The clinic is staffed by well-trained and experienced surgeons, who are also responsible for the training of Cypriot physicians in treating multiple injury cases. Integral to the daily activities of the clinic is the educational and research work. Both in the clinical and in the research field, the collaboration with the Medical School of the University of Cyprus is of strategic importance to the clinic.
