The Cardiology Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital consists of the general ward of the clinic, the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit, the day care unit, the Catheterization Lab (interventional cardiology/electrophysiology), the non-invasive cardiology section (cardiac imaging/echocardiography/stress tests), and the outpatient department.
In the ward, patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions are hospitalised, while in the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit, acute and severe cases such as acute myocardial infarction, heart failure with pulmonary oedema, etc., are treated.
The Catheterization Lab performs coronary angiograms for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, including primary angioplasty for acute myocardial infarction on a 24-hour basis, as well as complex interventions involving rotational atherectomy, LASER mediated thrombectomy, Shockwave balloon lithotripsy, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), and iFR/FFR. It is also responsible for the diagnosis of valvular heart disease and structural heart conditions and the implementation of their treatment approaches such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), percutaneous mitral valve repair, as well as pacemaker and defibrillator implantations, biventricular pacemakers, and specialised electrophysiological studies.
The outpatient department provides follow-up care for patients with various cardiac conditions, and specialised clinics are available for adult congenital heart diseases, hereditary cardiomyopathies, heart failure, and valvular/structural heart diseases.
The Non-invasive Cardiology Laboratory of Nicosia General Hospital has been accredited by the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging following a comprehensive evaluation for transthoracic echocardiography and stress echocardiography offered by the clinic. The European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging is a branch of the European Society of Cardiology that specialises in cardiac imaging.
