The Cardiology clinic of Limassol General Hospital is staffed with specialised and highly trained medical personnel and has a capacity of 30 beds in the general cardiology ward, as well as additional beds in the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit.
The general ward accommodates patients with cardiac conditions across the entire spectrum of cardiology, while the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit deals with acute and more severe cases such as acute myocardial infarction, heart failure syndromes with signs of circulatory failure, arrhythmic syndromes, or other cardiac diseases that require intensive care.
The clinic’s mission is the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of all cardiovascular diseases. In collaboration with renowned colleagues from other departments of the hospital, they manage the most demanding cases, providing comprehensive medical coverage and care to patients. Emphasis is given in providing timely and sufficient information to the patient’s family regarding the course of the patient’s condition, considering the family as an essential counterpart in the proper management of cases.
The Cardiology clinic encompasses the clinics of outpatient care, non-invasive cardiology, and interventional cardiology.
Currently, the clinic operates two outpatient clinics on a daily basis, except for Mondays and Fridays when only one clinic operates. The outpatient clinics provide follow-up care for patients who have been hospitalised in the past, as well as for patients with cardiac problems referred by other colleagues.
The non-invasive cardiology clinic performs complete two-dimensional and three-dimensional transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiograms, as well as stress echocardiograms (stress echo), stress tests, and continuous real-time electrocardiographic monitoring.
In the interventional cardiology clinic, which was established in 2005 and has been operating with a modern angiography system since January 2022, cardiac catheterizations/angiographies of coronary arteries are performed for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease in both acute and non-acute cases.
The ability to perform urgent coronary angiography/angioplasty for patients in need is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The department is fully equipped with diagnostic means and such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) for functional assessment of coronary stenosis (instant wave-Free Ratio/iFR), as well as therapeutic means such as rotational atherectomy, excimer laser coronary angioplasty, and intravascular lithotripsy (Shockwave Intravascular Lithotripsy) for complex coronary artery stenosis interventions.
Additionally, the department offers the capability of implantation and control/programming of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
The following examinations are carried out in the Department of Cardiac Ultrasound, which is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology:
