Antimicrobial Stewardship Team (AST) at Limassol General Hospital

AST Objective

To design and develop strategies, guidelines and protocols for the rational use of antibiotics for patients at Limassol General Hospital. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the optimal antimicrobial therapy, at the indicated dosage and duration depending on the type of infection, thereby reducing the risk of developing and spreading multidrug-resistant pathogens while selecting the antimicrobial regimen with the best cost-effectiveness ratio.

Aims of AST

To align with the National action plan on antimicrobial resistance
To develop protocols and guidelines for the rational use of antimicrobials at Limassol General Hospital
To monitor and evaluate antimicrobial prescribing practices at Limassol General Hospital
To disseminate the monitoring and evaluation data to all stakeholders
To provide consultation for the treatment of infectious diseases in clinical settings
To develop programs to promote the rational use of antimicrobials in the hospital
To participate in education and awareness-raising on the rational use of antimicrobials among all hospital staff.

Supervision

AST operates as a part of the Infection Control Committee (ICC) of Limassol General Hospital. The work of AST is supervised by the Head and members of the Infection Control Committee of Limassol General Hospital.
